So here we are in Gdansk, arriving at the Lech Walesa airport this morning! Funny we think that they named it after a trade union leader – can’t imagine that in Spain or anywhere else in Europe for that matter – but then we find out that Walesa actually became president of Poland, so that explains it. To be honest we don’t know much about the country, and even less about their co-hosts Ukraine, but we have some time to find out. Anyway now we only have time to leave our bags at the hotel, and it’s off to join the fun in the centre of town, where the Spanish and Italian supporters are mixing together – great to see after all the reports of problems in other places.
Tomorrow’s game is the most difficult of the group stage, but we don’t know many of the Italian players, and let’s hope we can get through it. All the reports are that Del Bosque has ten players inked in already, Casillas, Arbeloa, Ramos, Piqué, Jordi Alba, Xavi, Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Silva and Iniesta, and only the centre forward position is a doubt. We prefer Llorente, but it could be Torres or Negredo as well. We have faith in the boss though, and we are sure he will make the right choice!
