Barcelona's nightmare
Claudio "Piojo" López struck again, heading in Angulo's cross four
minutes from time. Angulo thought he had scored in the first half but the
referee disallowed the goal for offside. Oscar came on as substitute for
Valencia, his first official match since moving from Barcelona. He was given a
standing ovation by Barcelona fans who disagreed with Louis Van Gaal's decision
to sell him. |
Second leg - 15 August
Barcelona 3 - Valencia

Barcelona lead 3 times, but
each time Valencia came back to equalise. The first 3 goals all came from
corners. Kluivert headed the first after 13 minutes, but Albelda scored a
minute later. Ronald headed Barça's second halfway through the first
half. In the second half, Hesp failed to hold Carboni's cross and
Sánchez shot into an empty net. Kluivert re-established Barça's
lead on the hour heading in Figo's cross, but Farinós equalised with a
low shot five minutes later. Albelda was sent off seven minutes from time but
Valencia hung on to win their second trophy in three months after going 20
years without any. This was Barcelona's third super cup defeat in a row.
Seventeen year old Nano played his first official game for the home side.
