World Club Championship 1999/2000

The club world championship took place in Brazil in January. Eight teams from all over the world took part, with Real Madrid and Manchester United representing Europe. Real Madrid had a break from their Spanish league programme and were also given a bye in the Spanish cup to allow them to play in Brazil.

Anelka, Raúl and Savio (Pen) give Madrid easy victory in first game. Anelka's first official goal for his club.
7 Jan 2000 Real Madrid 2 - Corinthians (Brazil) 2
Anelka scores two more, then misses a penalty near the end.
10 Jan 2000 Real Madrid 3 - Casablanca 2 (African zone)
Goals from Hierro, Morientes and Geremi. Three Madrid players sent off, Roberto Carlos, Guti and Karembeu, and Anelka injured. Vasco Da Gama and Corinthians play the final.
14 Jan 2000 Real Madrid 1 - Necaxa 1
(Third placed play off)

Raúl got the goal, but they lost on penalties. Eto'o, Helguera and Morientes scored theirs, McManaman and Dorado shot wide.
