An 18 man olympic squad was named by under 21 manager Iñaki Sáez. The team is mainly made up of players from last season's under 21 side, and Spain have decided not to include any over-age players. Full details as follows:

Keepers: Aranzubia (Bilbao), Felipe (Extremadura)
Defenders: Lacruz (Bilbao), Marchena (Benfica), Unai (Villarreal), Capdevila (Deportivo), Puyol (Barcelona), Amaya (Atlético Madrid)
Midfield: Xavi and Gabri (Barcelona), Ferrón (Zaragoza), Ismael (Racing), Velamazán (Espanyol), Albelda (Valencia)
Forwards: José Mari (AC Milan), Luque (Mallorca), Tamudo (Espanyol), Angulo (Valencia).

Spain play in group B, with games against Korea on 14th September, then Chile (17th) and Morocco (20th). If they reach the final on 30th September they will be missing from their clubs for a month. As well as the Spanish players, ten other first division players will be representing their countries at the games: Okunowo (Barcelona), Edu and McCarthy (Celta), Bassir and Kouba (Deportivo), Santís (Espanyol), Baiano and Alvaro (Las Palmas), Eto'o (Mallorca) and Geremi (Real Madrid).
