With only a few days left to the league transfer deadline of 15th September, squads are nearly all complete. Nevertheless a few late transfers could be registered, with for example Real Madrid still looking for a reliable striker as cover for Morientes and Raúl, and Valencia trying to sign a left back. There are still a few players remaining on clubs books who cannot be registered as squads are full, or the maximum number of non-EU players (five for this season) has been reached. One way around the non-EU rule is to apply for European passports, and Celta's Catanha is the latest to become a nationalized Spaniard, leaving a place free for Edu. Other than that, Betis are making most headlines as they move to replace Alfonso, Finidi and Oli.
