The summer transfer market closed on Friday with few last minute surprises. Zaragoza signed Argentinian Montenegro to strengthen their attack, and two players from Deportivo, Jaime and Schurrer, moved on loan to Racing and Las Palmas respectively. Real Madrid decided not to sign Salas as the asking price was too high, although Savio (or Solari) could still join Chelsea. They did find a home for two of their cast-offs though, Canabal finally accepting an offer from Málaga and Congo going to Vitoria de Gimaraes for one season. Vidakovic moved from Betis to Osasuna, and Valencia signed another member of the Brazilian Olympic squad, Fabio Aurelio. He will not be able to play until the end of the year however, as the last place in the squad went to Ayala, their new signing from Milan. Clubs can not now sign new players (except in the case of serious injuries) until the next transfer period in December.
