Spain's Olympic soccer team advanced to the final after defeating the United States 3-1. José Mari was the star of the night, laying on goals for Tamudo and Angulo in the first quarter of the match and scoring the third at the end as USA were coming back in to the game. They had narrowed the gap shortly before half time through a Vagenas penalty after Angulo had fouled Hejduk. Spain now have a chance to emulate their gold medal winning team from eight years ago in their match against Cameroon early Saturday morning European time. (26.9.00)
