Spain won their second qualifying game for the 2002 World Cup 2-0 with a goal in each half against Israel. Gerard scored the first after Urzaiz chested down Mendieta's long ball into his path, but the Barça midfielder went off injured shortly afterwards, Baraja coming on for his debut in his place.
