Spain lost their game against Holland in Sevilla in an at times unfriendly friendly match. Hierro opened the scoring for Spain in the second half from a free kick and ex Atlético Madrid striker Hasselbaink equalised a few minutes later. The two goal scorers were then involved in an off the ball incident which led to both being sent off by the Italian referee. Holland's captain Frank De Boer, playing in a record 85th game for his country, headed the winner five minutes from time. Two of De Boer's Barcelona team mates, Puyol and Xavi, both made their full international debuts for Spain. The day before, Spain's under 21 side beat Holland 2-0, with second half goals from Celta's Pablo Couñago and new boy Guayre of Las Palmas. (15.11.00)
