Barcelona were humiliated by Zaragoza in a match which could be the last for manager Serra Ferrer. Defensive errors allowed the home side to score through Lanna, Jamelli and José Ignacio before Gerard got a consolation goal in the last minute. Rayo Vallecano moved up to fourth with a 4-2 victory over Málaga. Goals by Bolo, Bolic, Bravo (own goal) and Bartelt, with Zárate and Agostinho replying for the visitors. There were two 4-1 victories as well, with Oviedo keeping up their unbeaten home record to move sixth with goals by Oli, Reyes, Losada and Möller, with Pachón getting a late consolation for Valladolid, and Real Sociedad beating Numancia by the same score with a brace from Jankauskas as well as two others by De Paula and Idiakez against a sole strike by Ojeda. Espanyol kept up their good home form thanks to a late Sergio header after Etxeberria had equalised an earlier goal by Pochettino, and nine man Celta threw away a one goal lead (Gustavo López) with a last minute own goal by Cáceres. Sevilla beat Betis 1-3 in the city derby to hold on to second place in the second division, ahead of Córdoba on goal average after they won against Extremadura 2-0. Salamanca rise up to fourth with a 0-1 victory at Ferrol after none of the teams above them won. The matches between Jaén and Leganés, Levante and Sporting, and Badajoz and Murcia all ended in draws. Elche were reduced to nine men and ended up losing 1-4 against Getafe, and in the relegation battle, Compostela beat Lleida 2-1. (19.11.00)

Valencia and Deportivo La Coruña kept up their fight at the top of the first division after both drew away on Saturday night. Deportivo scored through Scaloni after only 16 seconds in their match against Osasuna, but Cruchaga levelled the scores at 1-1 some fifteen minutes later. Valencia were behind to an Iván Alonso header in their game at Alavés, but Carew got another late goal to salvage a point and stay ahead of Depor on goal average. Real Madrid moved to within a point of both of them with an unconvincing 0-1 away win against Villarreal. The only goal came in the second half when Amor deflected McManaman's cross past his own keeper. In the last game of the day, Las Palmas ended Mallorca's four match winning run with a 1-0 victory. Tenerife increased their lead at the top of the second division to six points pending Sunday's matches with a 0-1 victory against bottom club Universidad Las Palmas. The Canary Island derby was settled by a Barata goal in the second half. Atlético Madrid once again disappointed their supporters with a 1-1 draw at home to Eibar. Salva scored in the first half, but Sendoa equalised for the Basque team after the break. In the other game played on Saturday, Recreativo beat Albacete 1-0. (18.11.00)
