Champions League day 8: Real Madrid cruised to an easy 4-1 victory against Anderlecht in their phase 2 day 2 match on Tuesday night. By half time they were three up through Morientes, a Figo penalty and then Iván Helguera. In the second half Roberto Carlos added the fourth with a free kick before Stoica got a consolation goal in the last minute for the Belgians. Madrid head their group with six points from two games. Valencia drew 0-0 in Athens with Panathinaikos on Wednesday to go second in their group behind Manchester United. The result was to be expected: Spanish clubs have not won in Greece in 37 years. Deportivo lost at home by 0-1 to Milan, with Helveg scoring the only goal of the game just before half time. The result leaves them third in their group, and they have to get four points from their next two games with Galatasaray to have any realistic chance of progressing to the next phase. (06.12.00)
