Sevilla moved back to the top of the table with a 2-0 victory over Salamanca. Goals from Héctor in the first half and an Olivera penalty in the second. They are now one point ahead of Betis, who came from behind to draw 1-1 at Elche thanks to an Amato goal in the second half, and two ahead of Tenerife who drew 0-0 at ten man Sporting. The top three have opened up a four point gap over fourth placed Salamanca.

Elsewhere US international Razov got a hat-trick for Racing Ferrol as they beat Compostela 0-5 to move out of the relegation zone, and Levante moved up to sixth with two late Salillas goals to beat Córdoba 2-1. Atlético Madrid slipped up again against fifth placed Recreativo Huelva, and only an injury time goal by Mena from a free kick salvaged a point. Each week it looks less likely that Atleti are going to return to the top flight next season. (04.02.01)
