Atlético Madrid came back from two goals down to beat Compostela 2-3. Gudelj scored twice in the first half to give the home side the lead, but the entry of Luque in the second half turned the game around. The youngster scored the first himself and had a hand in the second when Pinillos put through his own net in a two minute period in the second half. Then in injury time a Salva overhead kick set up Hugo Leal to slide the ball home.

Recreativo Huelva kept up their challenge on the top clubs with a 4-1 victory over bottom side Universidad Las Palmas. Xisco got all three goals for the Andalucian side before Zahinos pulled one back. In the Andalucian derby, Jaén drew 0-0 with Córdoba. (17.02.01)

Sevilla returned to the top of the second division after a late 0-1 victory at relegation candidates Lleida. Only a good performance by Sevilla's keeper Notario kept them in the game, and Gallardo scrambled the winner near the end. They go a point above neighbours Betis, who threw everything at Badajoz but could only draw 1-1. Bauzá gave the visitors an early lead, but Amato equalised in the second half, his eighth since joining the club this winter. Betis are now two points ahead of Tenerife, who lost to Levante 2-0 with second half goals by Alberto and Peragón. The Valencia based club rise up to sixth with their victory, three points behind fifth placed Recreativo.

Salamanca took advantage of the slip up by Tenerife to move to within a point of them after beating Leganés 0-1. Velasco got their goal midway through the second half. They are still four points ahead of Recreativo, and right now it looks like a four horse race for the three promotion spots, although Atlético should not be ruled out too early as they jump up to seventh and take on Betis in Madrid next Sunday lunchtime. Albacete are level with Atlético with a game in hand after beating Murcia 2-1, despite having a man sent off early on, and Sporting are also on 36 points after drawing 0-0 with Eibar.

Down at the bottom Getafe missed an opportunity to get away from the relegation zone after they lost 0-1 to fellow strugglers Extremadura, and Elche finally won at home for the first time in more than four months, beating Racing Ferrol 2-0, with Serban making one goal and scoring the second. Getafe's defeat means the bottom four all lost, with Lleida and Universidad Las Palmas still five points adrift of the rest of the pack. (18.02.01)
