Champions league quarter-finals

Leeds Utd. 3 - Deportivo 0
A disappointing performance by Deportivo, who were virtually eliminated from the competition by a superior Leeds side. Missing their two veteran organizers Donato and Mauro Silva they were never in the match, and a Harte free kick in the first half and headed goals by Smith and Ferdinand in the second left the Spanish league champions with little chance of reaching the semi-finals.

Arsenal 2 - Valencia 1
An away goal by Ayala shortly before half time gave Valencia a reasonable chance of qualifying for the semi-finals despite losing 2-1 in the end to Arsenal. Two goals in three minutes in the second half by Henry and Parlour gave the English side victory on the night. (04.04.01)

Galatasaray 3 - Real Madrid 2
A match of two halves in Turkey, with Real Madrid throwing away a two goal lead after the interval to end up on the wrong end of a 3-2 result against Galatasaray. Midfielders Iván Helguera and Makelele had given Madrid the lead at the break, but a penalty by Umit and then goals by Hasan and Jardel gave the Turks a narrow advantage for the return leg in a fortnight's time.
