Friendly international: Spain vs Japan

José Antonio Camacho named a larger than normal 20 man squad for next Wednesday's friendly game with Japan, which will take place at Córdoba's Arcángel stadium. For only the second time in 30 years a second division player has been called up, Atlético Madrid's Salva returning to the side due to injuries to Morientes, Javi Moreno and Urzaiz. The last player from the lower ranks to appear for Spain was Tomás Christiansen from Barcelona B, who was in their first team at the time. Another ex Atlético striker José Mari, now plying his trade with Milan, is also in the squad, as is Espanyol's Tamudo, who will be lining up with teammate Segio against one of their colleagues, Japan's Aki Nishizawa. Barcelona's young full back Puyol is called back, and Valencia's Vicente keeps his place, as does Téllez from Alavés who didn't get a chance to make a debut appearance in the last game against France. The full squad is as follows:

Keepers: Casillas (Real Madrid), Cañizares (Valencia)

Defenders: Téllez (Alavés), Puyol and Sergi (Barcelona), Manuel Pablo (Deportivo), Hierro (Real Madrid), Nadal (Mallorca), Paco (Zaragoza)

Midfielders: Guardiola (Barcelona), Sergio (Espenyol), Iván Helguera (Real Madrid), Baraja, Mendieta and Vicente (Valencia)

Forwards: Tamudo (Espanyol), Munitis and Raúl (Real Madrid), Salva (Atlético Madrid), José Mari (AC Milan) (20.04.01)
