Champions league semi-finals first leg

Leeds United 0 - Valencia 0
Héctor Cúper achieved his objective, shutting out Leeds United on their home patch to take a score-less draw back to the Mestalla stadium. Valencia lined up with a defensive formation, with Aimar left on the bench, but they could have even won the game after getting the best chances in the first half. Baraja and Carboni picked up yellow cards which means they will be missing for the second leg in six days time. (02.05.01)

Real Madrid 0 - Bayern Munich 1
A mistake by Real Madrid's young keeper Iker Casillas left the European champions with one foot out of the competition. Casillas was caught off guard by a long speculative shot from Elber in the second half which gave Bayern Munich the victory. Munich's keeper Kahn kept out shots from the Madrid forwards as the visitors defended their lead to the end. Bayern's Effenberg picked up a yellow card which will keep him out of the return leg in eight days time in the Olympic stadium. (01.05.01)
