Under 16 European championship

Spain's under 16 team won through to the final of the European championships after defeating Croatia 3-0 in the semi-final at Middlesborough's Riverside stadium. Two of the goals came from Atlético Madrid's Fernando Torres, joint top scorer of the final stage with six from five games, with Espanyol's Senel getting the other. The final of the tournament, which is taking place entirely in the North of England, will be against France on Sunday in Sunderland's Stadium of Light. France beat hosts England 4-0 in the other semi-final, and must be favourites having yet to concede a goal in either the qualifying stages or the final stage, although Spain have won the title five times in the past.
