World cup qualifiers

José Antonio Camacho named a smaller than expected 19 man squad for the double header World Cup 2002 qualifying matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Israel next week. Deportivo's Diego Tristán has been called up for the first time after his recent run of excellent form, and his teammate Valerón returns to the side for the first time since the Euro 2000 tournament. Also recalled to the side are Luis Enrique, Javi Moreno and Juanfran, with Paco, Sergio, José Mari and Tamudo dropping out and Vicente returning to the under 21 squad. There was no place either for Guti, who had been tipped to return. The full list is as follows:

Keepers: Casillas (Real Madrid), Cañizares (Valencia)

Defenders: Téllez (Alavés), Puyol and Sergi (Barcelona), Juanfran (Celta), Manuel Pablo (Deportivo), Hierro (Real Madrid), Nadal (Mallorca)

Midfielders: Guardiola and Luis Enrique (Barcelona), Valerón (Deportivo), Iván Helguera (Real Madrid), Baraja and Mendieta (Valencia)

Forwards: Javi Moreno (Alavés), Diego Tristán (Deportivo), Munitis and Raúl (Real Madrid)
