Celta took a major step towards getting revenge on Barcelona for their eliminiation from the UEFA cup, winning this first leg match 3-1. Barcelona took the lead through Simao in the sixth minute, but Berizzo made it all square before the half time interval. Then goals from Mostovoi and Jesuli put the home side in front before Barcelona were awarded a controversial penalty near the end. Velasco was sent off in the incident, but Rivaldo missed his kick in what could be his last game for his club to leave Celta with a two goal advantage for Sunday night's second leg match at the Nou Camp. Atlético Madrid 0 - Zaragoza 2
Zaragoza put one foot in the Spanish cup final with a 0-2 victory over Atlético Madrid. The game was marred by crowd violence in the first half, when radical Atlético fans threw smoke bombs and other objects on to the pitch in protest at their failure to win promotion. Amaya was sent off for the home side shortly afterwards for a foul on Yordi, and Acuña scored from the resulting free kick. Then Jamelli added a second after the break to give his side a commanding lead for the second leg on Saturday night. (20.06.01)
