Third round first leg

The format of the cup changes as it enters into the third round. Ties are to be played over two legs from now on, with teams playing in European competitions seeded, and first leg matches to be played in the ground of the lower division side. With many top clubs already out, only three clubs were seeded, Real Madrid, Deportivo and Mallorca. As luck would have it, the draw paired up all seven first division teams with second division opposition, with one other tie between the two second division B giantkillers Figueres and Novelda. Games will be played in the middle two weeks of December.

The first leg matches were scheduled for 12th December, with one match between Hospitalet and Deportivo brought forward to Tuesday 11th with a view to being televised live. However the game didn't take place as Deportivo exercised their rights to refuse to play on Hospitalet's artificial pitch, and the Catalan club pulled out in protest.
