Spain qualified for next year's World Cup with what was eventually an easy victory over Austria. They struggled in the first half though against a disciplined defence before Valerón found Diego Tristán for the opening goal just before the break. Substitute Morientes got two more in the second half, and Mendieta added a fourth at the end on his return to the Mestalla stadium. Wednesday night's match at Liechtenstein will now be a formality, and Camacho will probably use the opportunity to try out new players. (01.09.01).
