Spain crashed to defeat in their last group match in the European championship qualifying stage, and now have to wait until October to see whether they make it to the finals as one of the best ranked second placed teams. Even with Xavi and Vicente in the starting line up they were outclassed by France, and goals by Cissé in the first half and Sorlan and Vahirua in the second left them down and out. (05.09.01)
