Under 17 European championships

Spain qualified for the last sixteen of the European championships after winning their mini-group with victories against Austria (1-0) and Macedonia (3-0). The finals will be played in Denmark from 27th April to 10th May, and the youngsters have been paired with Yugoslavia, the Czech Republic and Moldavia in group C. The four semi-finalists will also qualify for the Meridian cup, which will take place in Egypt in late January 2003.

The full squad for the qualifying matches was as follows:

Keepers: Cecilio Nauzet (Las Palmas), Roberto Santamaría (Osasuna)

Defenders: Aitor Olmo (Barcelona), Miguel Robuste (Espanyol), Alexis Ruano (Málaga), José Merino (Oviedo), Javi Garrido (Real Sociedad)

Midfielders: David Corominas (Barcelona), Iray Barreto (Espanyol), Roberto Soldado (Real Madrid), Jaime Gavilán (Valencia), David Córcoles (Hércules), Eduardo Ecay (CD Amigo)

Forwards: Francisco Molinero (Atlético Madrid), Toni Corbellá (Barcelona), Salvador "Ador" Jiménez (Málaga), Borja Valero (Real Madrid).

Final groups:

Group A: Denmark (hosts), Holland, Finland, England.

Group B: Switzerland, Ukraine, Portugal, France.

Group C: Spain, Yugoslavia, Czech Republic, Moldavia.

Group D: Germany, Georgia, Hungary, Poland.

First two of each group to qualify for the quarter finals, and from then on in knock-out format through to the final on 10th May. (19.03.02)
