Spain sneaked though to the semi-finals of the competition on penalties after allowing hosts Denmark to come back from two goals down. Juan Santiesteban's side took the lead through Soldado early on when he beat the offside to trap to connect with Merino's cross, and went further ahead on the hour mark when Gavilán's free kick entered the far corner of the net with keeper Ambrosen expecting a cross. However Denmark came back in the second half with Jorgensen scoring with a header, and Merino had to clear another effort off the line soon afterwards. Nauzet made a couple of important saves but could do nothing as Brandrup headed the equaliser, and there were sighs of relief all round when the referee decided that Rasmussen had dived in the area in the last minute, awarding a yellow card to the striker rather than a penalty to his side. The game went in to the penalty shoot out, and although Aitor's kick was saved, Cagara's shot hit the post and then Nauzet saved Zimling's last effort to take his side through to a semi-final tie with either France or Germany next week.
