Under 17 European championship semi-final

Spain 1 - France 1 (3-4 on penalties)

Spain were beaten in the penalty shoot out by France and are knocked out of the competition. The youngsters had an early chance to take the lead when Gavilán was awarded a penalty, but the captain put his kick wide and they paid the price when the referee gave a second penalty to their opponents on the stroke of half time which Plessis converted. Substitute Silva headed an equaliser two minutes from the end from Valero's corner to take the game to the shoot out. But although Nauzet saved the first penalty from Plessis, the French keeper Bengegnu stopped shots from Soldado and Merino to take revenge on the same Spanish squad who beat them in the under 16 final the season before.
