Spain qualified for the
quarter finals of the under 17 European championship early with their second
victory in a row. Their hero was once again Espanyol's Jonathan Soriano, who
scored a hat-trick to take his tally for the tournament to five. "Jona" hit the
post early on and then gave his side the lead with a shot on the turn with a
quarter of an hour gone. Bulgaru levelled the scores just before the break, but
as he had done against the Czech Republic, Real Madrid's Soldado restored the
lead in the first minute of the second half after good work by Jonathan. Once
again Moldavia equalised, Calincov beating Nauzet from outside of the area, but
Jonathan scored two more before the half was ten minutes old, and when Vlasov
was sent off for fouling the youngster from behind the game was over. Spain now
go on to play Yugoslavia next Wednesday for first place in their group.
