Villarreal fought back against Italian side Torino to cancel out a two goal lead from the first leg and win the tie on the penalty shoot-out. After a first half with little incident, Guayre put Víctor Muñoz's side on the right track with a strike in the first minute of the second half after good work by Jorge López. A quarter of an hour later Arruabarrena got the second to level the tie on aggregate and send the game into extra time.

Both sides were reduced to ten men when Lucarelli for the visitors and then Quique Alvarez for the home team picked up second bookings, but neither side were able to add to the score and it was down to penalties. Although Galca missed Villarreal's first kick, Reina saved two to put his side through to a semi-final fixture with French club Troyes. If they win that, they could meet Málaga in one of the three finals next month.
