Spanish national squad

Iñaki Saéz was expected to ring out the changes in his first squad for next week's friendly game against Hungary, but he surprised everybody picking five uncapped players including three, Orbaiz, Marchena and Raúl Bravo, who have only played a handful of games for their respective clubs. Saéz also brought in two new young players in defence, Juanito and García Calvo, and brought back Tamudo, Vicente and Aranzábal, all of whom were not in Camacho's World Cup squad. Many of the squad had played for the manager when he was in charge of Spain's junior teams. He only has one game to get it right though, with the first Euro 2004 qualifying match coming up in September. The full squad for Budapest is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Casillas (Real Madrid), Ricardo (Valladolid)

Defenders: García Calvo (Atlético Madrid), Puyol (Barcelona), Juanito (Betis), Iván Helguera and Raúl Bravo (Real Madrid), Aranzábal (Real Sociedad), Marchena (Valencia)

Midfielders: Orbaiz (Athletic Bilbao), Mendieta and Xavi (Barcelona), Joaquín (Betis), Valerón (Deportivo), Vicente (Valencia)

Forwards: Tamudo (Espanyol), Morientes and Raúl (Real Madrid)

Spain's under-21 side will also play Hungary in Budapest next Tuesday, the night before the full international. Fernando Torres (Atlético Madrid) and Reyes (Sevilla) will lead the attack, and Glasgow Rangers new signing Mikel Arteta has also been called up. (14.08.02)
