Champions League - third qualifying round, first leg

Barcelona 3 - Legia Warsaw 0

Barcelona took a big step towards qualifying for the first league stage with a three goal victory over Legia Warsaw. The Catalans took the lead early in the first half with a Frank De Boer free kick, but despite countless shots at goal they could not beat keeper Stanew until much later in the game. Young keeper Víctor Valdés had to make a vital save from Kucharski before substitute Riquelme, making his debut in the Nou Camp, put the fans minds at rest with a fierce shot from outside of the area which went in off the post. With the game in injury time Cocu rose to head home Mendieta's corner and give his side a big lead to take into the second leg in Poland in a fortnight's time. (14.08.02)
