Champions League - third qualifying round, second leg

Legia (0) 0 - Barcelona (3) 1

Mission accomplished. Barcelona qualified for the lucrative league stage of the competition with a second victory over Polish champions Legia Warsaw. It was a controlled performance from the Catalans, who have now only let in one goal in their last five games, and the result was never in doubt despite early pressure from their opponents. Once they got used to the poor conditions of the pitch they knocked the ball around with ease, and Luis Enrique and Mendieta both went close to scoring before the break.

Midway through the second half Kluivert was brought down in the area, and Mendieta stepped up to slot the resulting penalty past Stanew. Legia ended the game with ten men after Magiera got himself sent off near the end for pulling back on substitute Geovanni's shirt. By then though it didn't matter much, and Barça go in to tomorrow's draw together with Valencia, Deportivo and Real Madrid. (28.08.02)
