Spain 3 - Northern Ireland 0

Spain recorded their second victory in a row in the competition to head up group six with maximum points. Iñaki Sáez lined up with six Real Madrid players in the side, including Guti and Raúl, who passed a late fitness test to play. However it was Valencia's Baraja who got on the end of Xavi's cross eighteen minutes into the game to head his team into the lead. Raúl shot just wide and Vicente hit the post before the break as Spain pushed forward, and a quarter of an hour into the second half Guti headed his first international goal from Vicente's cross. Even two goals down Northern Ireland didn't get near Casillas, and two minutes from time Baraja was there again after the defence blocked a shot from substitute Morientes to drill the ball low past Taylor.
