Spain played out a dull scoreless draw in this friendly game against Paraguay in Logroño. Manager Iñaki Sáez gave a run out to the rest of his squad after the victory against Northern Ireland, with Contreras making his debut in goal and another new boy Capdevila coming on at half time. As usual Paraguay put up a defensive wall right from the start, and the only real scoring chance was when Vicente fired a free kick against the post. Sáez made five changes at the break, but it was more of the same, and the home side only came out of their lethargy in the final minutes when Diego Tristán headed against the crossbar. (16.10.02)
