Intercontinental cup

Real Madrid 2 - Olimpia 0

With all their star players back from injuries, Real Madrid have won the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo, adding another title and a cause for celebration in the upbeat finale to their centenary year.

Ronaldo, whose fitness has been questioned since joining the club, returned to the ground where he had scored the winning goals for Brazil in the World Cup final. After securing their early lead, he gave a commanding performance that won him the man of the match and possibly the best footballer of the year award as well.

Del Bosque's substitution of Guti for Ronaldo in the 82nd minute of the match also paid off, as he scored their second goal within a minute of coming on. (03.12.02)
