UEFA cup - fourth round, first leg

Málaga 0 - AEK Athens 0

Málaga were held to scoreless draw by AEK Athens and will now have an uphill battle to reach the quarter finals. Peiró's side were the only Spanish club left in the last sixteen of the competition, and having eliminated Leeds in the last round they were confident of doing well. However the Greek side are draw specialists, as they demonstrated by finishing all square six times in the first phase of the Champions League, including twice against Real Madrid, and they came to the Rosaleda stadium looking to take something back with them. After early pressure from the hosts, with Dely Valdés causing problems and Darío Silva wasting a good chance, the visitors rallied to defend well after the break and leave the Spaniards needing at least a score draw in the second leg.
