UEFA cup - quarter-final, second leg

Boavista 1 - Málaga 0

Málaga are out of the UEFA cup after losing on penalties to Boavista. Spain's only remaining representative in the competition were defending a one goal lead from the first leg, and Joaquín Peiró put out a defensive side to try and hold on to it. However a valiant fight ended when Luiz Claudio levelled the tie with a free kick in the eighty-second minute, and after thirty minutes of extra time the game went to the shoot out. The Portuguese side's keeper Ricardo took the first penalty and scored, and Leko put his kick over the bar. When Ricardo saved Bravo's shot four penalties later it was left to Goulart to strike the winner, taking the home side through 4-1 on spot kicks. (20.03.03)
