Second division, day 34

The top two sides Murcia and Albacete played out a 0-0 draw on Sunday lunchtime to maintain the status quo at the top. Visiting keeper Roa saved a Tito penalty in the first minute. Zaragoza closed the gap between the top three to a point later in the evening after beating Badajoz 2-0 with a strike from Cani and a Soriano penalty. Badajoz are now in bottom spot. Fourth place Levante scraped a 2-2 draw at home to Poli Ejido thanks to an injury time goal from Félix, but they are now five points adrift of the promotion spots.

The struggle for survival is hotting up, with Oviedo moving off the bottom after beating Elche 2-1. Ferrol also won, beating Sporting by the same score, and Leganés drew 1-1 at Tenerife.

Córdoba and Terrassa are now involved in the relegation fight as well, the former losing 0-2 at home to Salamanca and the latter being beaten 3-0 by Almería, who move level with them on points. Numancia are a point above them both after drawing 1-1 at Getafe. (04.05.03)

Fifth placed Xerez are still in with a remote chance of promotion after they won 0-1 at Compostela on Saturday evening. Bernd Schuster's side extended their unbeaten run to eleven matches thanks to a goal by Zárate directly from a corner in the first half. Eibar held Las Palmas to a 0-0 draw in the only other game of the day, a result which does no real favour to either side. (03.05.03)
