Second division, day 37

Two goals from young striker Espadas gave Zaragoza a 1-3 victory at Xerez to keep them within a point of the leaders. With a seven point gap between the top three and fourth placed Levante, the promotion spots appear to be already tied up.

The same cannot be said though for the relegation spots, with one point separating the bottom four and five teams within four points of the drop zone. Oviedo moved off the bottom with a 0-1 win at Leganés, leaving Badajoz a point adrift after they drew 1-1 with Terrassa. Eibar are also in trouble after they were beaten 1-0 by Numancia.

The rest of the sides can consider themselves safe for another season though. Salamanca moved away from the danger zone after beating Tenerife 2-1, and Sporting and Getafe drew 0-0 to virtually ensure another year in the "división de plata". (25.05.03)

Murcia virtually booked their place in the first division with a 0-2 win at Córdoba on Saturday. They move further clear at the top after third placed Albacete were held to a 1-1 draw by Compostela. Two of the chasing sides Las Palmas and Levante cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw, and there was the same result between Poli Ejido and relegation candidates Racing Ferrol. Almería climbed out of the bottom four though after beating Elche 0-2. (24.05.03)
