Second division, day 38

Murcia are the first side to ensure their promotion to the first division after a 1-0 win over fourth placed Levante on Sunday lunchtime. Acciari scored the only goal which takes David Vidal's side back to the top flight for the first time in fourteen years, and virtually ensures promotion as well for Zaragoza and Albacete.

The fight to avoid relegation is wide open after the evening's results. Elche left Eibar in the bottom four after beating them 0-1, and Ferrol sank deeper into the drop zone after they were held 1-1 by Salamanca. Córdoba are also back in the running after losing 2-0 at Tenerife, and Terrassa are not out of it despite scraping a late 1-1 draw with Numancia. Compostela and Poli Ejido are probably clear though after drawing 2-2 in their game. (01.06.03)

Zaragoza lost the chance to make sure of promotion when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sporting Gijon on Saturday evening. Espadas gave them the lead in the second minute, but Villa made it all square after the break. Third placed Albacete failed to take advantage though after they drew 0-0 at Oviedo, and they stay three points behind Paco Flores's side. The result was bad news for the Asturians too, who needed a win to try and get out of the relegation spots. Two of their close rivals won as well, Almería recording an incredible 6-0 victory over Xerez and Leganés helping themselves to a 0-3 win over neighbours Getafe. Bottom side Badajoz are in deeper trouble though after they lost 0-1 to Las Palmas, thanks to a last minute goal from Rubén. (31.05.03)

Four promotion play-off games took place on Friday night, with wins for Universidad Las Palmas, Burgos and Málaga B. Pontevedra and Castellón drew in the other game. (30.05.03)
