Spain 2 - Greece 0

Spain moved to the top of the Euro 2004 group 6 table with a 2-0 victory over Greece. Juan Santiesteban's side needed to win by two clear goals to overtake their opponents who had beaten them earlier in the competition, but the Greeks proved a tough nut to crack early on. The turning point came on the half hour mark when visiting captain Vallas was sent off after bringing down Fernando Torres, and a couple of minutes later Spain took the lead when Riera's low cross was bundled into his own net by Vintra under pressure from Valdo. It was not until ten minutes from the end though that Fernando Torres found his Atlético Madrid team mate Jorge for him to round the keeper and score the second. (06.06.03)
