Euro 2003 second
qualifying stage
Spain qualified for
this year's final round after winning all three of their games in the
mini-tournament which took place on the West coast of Spain earlier this month.
Juan Santiesteban's side opened their account with a 3-0 win over
Bulgaria in Alginet, courtesy of goals by José Cases and two from
David Rodríguez in the second half. Then two days later they beat
Wales 3-0 in Ontiniente with goals from Jurado, David Rodríguez
and Cases to set up an exciting last match with France, who had also won
both of their games. A 4,000 crowd turned up in Alcoy to see their side take
the lead through Jurado before the break, and Javier García added a
second a quarter of an hour from the end to see them through to the last eight,
which is scheduled to take place in Portugal in May. (07.03.03)
