Vila Real, Portugal. Spain
got off to a good start in their opening game, beating Italy 2-0 with goals
from Villarreal players Cases and Xisco. The team jointly managed by Juan
Santiesteban and Ginés Melendez opened the scoring somewhat fortunately
on the half hour mark when Cases charged down an attempted clearance by keeper
Virgili, the ball bouncing off his back into the net. Six minutes later
César found Xisco with an attempted shot, the young striker forcing the
ball in under pressure from Marzoratti. Azzurri substitute Rossi had a couple
of chances to pull one back after the break, especially from a free kick which
Adán just managed to tip away, but Spain held on to top the table after
England could only beat Israel 2-1. |
