Celta had virtually ensured their path to the third round with a three goal win at home against Viking, and they finished off the job in the second leg in Norway. Lotina was not taking any chances and put out a strong side, although Mostovoi and Gustavo López were kept in reserve in the beginning. Celta dominated the early minutes, with Catanha and Velasco both sending shots over the bar and Juanfran having a penalty appeal turned down. Viking replied through Nygaard, but ex Sevilla keeper Frode Olsen had to be at his best to keep out efforts from Juanfran and Sylvinho a few minutes later.

The Norwegians threw caution to the winds after the break, and after a couple of scares, Lotina turned to Mostovoi and Gustavo López, taking off his two most attacking players Edu and Catanha. It seemed to be a very defensive move, but a few minutes later Celta took the lead, Giovanella running past two defenders before leaving the ball in Mostovoi's path with a clever backheel. The "Tsar" was left with a clear path to goal, and without hesitating drove a low shot past Olsen, ending any hope for the locals. However they did get a consolation goal in the last minute through Sigurdsson after Celta relaxed, the substitute heading in from close range after Nygaard's shot ballooned up off Pinto.
