Celta lost their match at Ajax by a single goal and are now in last place in group H, struggling to qualify. Miguel Angel Lotina's side put in a reasonable performance though and felt hard done by not to come away with a point, especially after German referee Markus Merk turned down two penalty appeals in the second half.

Both sides created chances early on, with Ibrahimovic heading over for the locals and Luccin shooting wide at the other end. Lobont saved well from Sylvinho, and Juanfran, playing further forward than usual in place of the injured Gustavo López, also went close. The best chance of the first half though fell to Sonck, who got ahead of his marker to head just wide from Maxwell's cross on the stroke of half time.

Shortly after the restart Milosevic was booked for protesting when tackled in the penalty area. Soon afterwards the locals took the lead though, Ibrahimovic producing great skill in rounding Berizzo, Cáceres and Velasco before sliding the ball across Pinto and into the far corner of the net.

Celta did their best after that, and Jesuli was upset not to be awarded a penalty when tripped in the area. Berizzo headed over, Juanfran shot just wide and Milosevic just failed to steer Sylvinho's cross on target. But time ran out, and with Club Brugge surprisingly winning at AC Milan, the Galicians are now in bottom spot. However the group is still very tight, and with two consecutive home games to come against the Benelux sides, they must still fancy their chances of qualifying.
