Celta lost 2-3 to Arsenal in
their first leg match, and now have to win by two clear goals in Highbury in a
fortnight's time to continue in the competition. The English side took the lead
with just over a quarter of an hour gone when Edu forced the ball past
Cavallero after his first header from a Pires free kick hit Velasco on the
back. Local keeper Cavallero was cut on the head as he clashed with the goal
scorer, and play was stopped for four minutes while he was patched up. Four
minutes later though it was the turn of Celta's Edu to score, the Brazilian
midfielder celebrating his return after a long injury with a header from
Sylvinho's free kick which left Lehmann with no chance.
Both Edus could have scored
again before the break, and Henry went close for the visitors either side of
half time. But it was Arsenal's Edu who came out on top when he picked up a
pass from Reyes and left Berizzo for dead before firing a shot over Cavallero
and in to the far top corner of the net. José Ignacio made it all square
again after Sergio's header from Mostovoi's corner was blocked by the defence,
Lehmannn getting a hand to the midfielder's shot but only succeeding in turning
it into the net. But Pires restored the lead for the second time with ten
minutes to go after Henry set him up, and Arsenal must now be strong favourites
to go through to the last eight. |
