As expected, Celta Vigo were knocked out of the competition by an Arsenal side who never really had to move out of second gear to win the match. Arsene Wenger's team had a 2-3 advantage from the first leg, and they went further ahead with a quarter of an hour on the clock when Bergkamp slipped the ball through for Henry to beat Cavallero. Henry scored a second goal twenty minutes later after Cáceres could only head Ljungberg's cross straight to him, and the game was virtually over.

Luccin and Jesuli tested Lehmann later in the half, but Henry went close to getting his hat-trick after Pires set him up, and Cavallero was lucky not to give away a penalty after the restart with a neck high challenge on Bergkamp. The Spaniards were left with ten men for the last quarter of an hour when substitute Contreras picked up a second booking for a foul on Reyes, but by then the match was more than finished. Celta's first foray into the Champions' League was over, but at least they can now concentrate on saving their first division status.
