Villarreal look like they are heading towards a first ever appearance in Europe after winning 1-2 away at Heereveen. Benito Floro's side went ahead early on when Calleja turned Arruabarrena's cross past Vonk, a vital away goal for the team. The Dutch side equalised midway through the first half when Ballesteros deflected a cross from the right over Reina into his own net, but Víctor restored the lead just before half time after José Marí put him through. A draw will now be sufficient in the return leg in a fortnight's time to take the Spaniards into the first round of the UEFA cup. (12.08.03)
