Spanish Super Cup, first leg

Mallorca 2 - Real Madrid 1

Mallorca came from behind against Real Madrid to take a 2-1 lead into next Wednesday's second leg. The league champions had gone in front midway through the first half when Leo Franco allowed Beckham's corner through to Figo for him to fire the ball into the net. But Ibagaza set up new signing Bruggink to level the scores on the stroke of half time, and Eto'o added a second goal two minutes into the second half after good work from Campano. Cambiasso hit the post a few minutes later, but Madrid were unable to break down a well ordered defence after that and last season's cup winners now have a slight advantage to win the first official trophy of the season.
