Spanish Super Cup, second leg

Real Madrid 3 - Mallorca 0

Real Madrid won their first trophy of the season after defeating Mallorca in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup. Trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Mallorca, the league champions were held until just before half time when Raúl opened the scoring from close up after Roberto Carlos laid the ball across goal. Ronaldo added a second shortly after the restart after Figo put him through, and David Beckham delighted the crowd on his home debut by heading a third goal later in the half from Ronaldo's cross. It was not all one way traffic though, and Casillas was called upon to make numerous saves, in particular from substitute Jesús Perera in the second half. In the end though a comfortable victory for Madrid, who take the title for a record seventh time. (27.08.03)
