Second division, day eleven

Almería's top spot was confirmed on Sunday after leaders Numancia were beaten 2-0 by Cádiz, who move up to fourth. Third placed Levante played out a dull 0-0 draw at Getafe. Meanwhile Sporting Gijon moved up to sixth with a 1-0 victory over bottom side Terrassa, just ahead of Tenerife who added to the woes of managerless Rayo Vallecano with a 2-1 win.

Talking of managers, Recreativo fired their coach Paco Herrera after losing 0-2 to Córdoba, who themselves are currently in the hands of caretaker manager Miguel Angel Portugal. Xerez are anther side looking for a new boss, and they lost 5-2 to Málaga B who had not won a game since being promoted. In the other games on Sunday evening, Salamanca won 0-1 at struggling Algeciras and Ciudad de Murcia and Leganés drew 1-1. (09.11.03)

Almería moved to the top of the second division for the first time in their history after beating their local rivals Poli Ejido 3-1. All the goals came after the break, with Francisco scoring twice for the locals. In the only other game played on Saturday, Alavés moved back up to fourth spot after a 1-0 win over Las Palmas.
