Euro 2004 play off, first leg

Spain 2 - Norway 1

Spain struggled to win the first leg of their Euro 2004 play off against Norway, and only go into next Wednesday's return match with a narrow lead thanks to a late own goal. Iñaki Sáez'a side got off to a promising start, but failed to take their chances and paid the price when Iversen scored for the visitors on their first attack. Raúl headed an equaliser from a Reyes free kick later in the first half, but a well ordered defence and some first class goalkeeping from Johnsen stopped them from scoring again until seven minutes from the end, when Henning Berg put through his own net trying to clear after Baraja turned Joaquín's cross goalwards.
